New Centers- Art Investigation

Since we have returned from winter break we have been doing a lot of little things that needed to be done.

We did our science fair while we learned about kitchen chemistry. We won first place at our building and our project goes to districts next week. Once the district competition is over I will post all of those pictures.

We also decorated our door for Black History month by learning about Bing Davis. This led to curiosity about art so starting next week, we will begin our art investigation! Ms. West and I have been working diligently to set up centers... And they are ready for exploration starting next week. Some are art related and some are based on our current content.  Check them out!

Reading Area- we have been working on retelling stories during reading so in our reading area we have our puppet stage along with some retelling props. We also have the house and characters to retell Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. There are also a plethora of books on different subjects we have recently discussed.

Writing Area- now that we have started reading and writing so well there are all kinds of cool things in our writing area like sight word sentence puzzles, letter tile swatches to build words and gems to practice making sight words.

Loose Parts Area- I'm so excited! The students will be using loose parts to make faces on the wooden discs!

Building Area- students will be using the blocks, sticks and toilet paper rolls to make structures. Here is a structure a student made today during free time that he titled "Tower Hotel".

Home Living Area- This area will stay a bakery because the students are still having so much fun!

Art Area- students will explore different kinds of art. They have really been into oil pastels since we used them on our Bing Davis door project.  I also brought in some of my old art pieces to show the students and Ms. West showed them some that her son did.

Clay Area- in our clay area students will be using clay to create their own sculptures. At the end of our study we will discuss Da Vinci and try to make some movable art! In this area the students have tinker toys, beads, pipe cleaners and tons of other items to use with their clay. We also have a mat for them to place the sculpture on where they will name their art. Here is one a child made during free time titled " Boat".

Math Area- our math space will focus on numbers to 20, hundreds charts, greater and less, and basic addition. I have included alot of games that we have been playing during math time.

Science Area- in our science area there are lots of things for the students to use to make structures and sculptures. We have rocks, straws with masking tape, magnets and tubes with the marbles.

We can't wait to see what the students do in these areas and what beautiful art they make. We will be having a gallery for the other classrooms and parents to see at the end of our study!
